Vertical Aerospace Ltd. has marked a key milestone in electric aviation with the successful piloted thrust-borne flight maneuvers of its VX4 eVTOL aircraft. This achievement, backed by an expanded Permit to Fly from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), positions the company as the second worldwide to accomplish such a feat.

The test involved complex maneuvers such as roll, yaw, and spot turns, essential for assessing the VX4’s aerodynamic behavior, control systems, and battery efficiency. With over 1,500 pre-orders from major airlines, Vertical is solidifying its presence in the emerging eVTOL market.

As Vertical moves into Phase 3 of its testing, the CAA’s approval paves the way for wingborne flight tests and further certification efforts. With a range of 100 miles and a top speed of 150 mph, the VX4 aims to revolutionize urban and regional air travel.
